Atlas The Bearer of the Heavens and Mother Earth

Posted by Roses on February 26, 2012

In West Yorkshire Uk The St Pauls St Leeds building has a sculpture of Atlas holding up the earth repenting his sins against Zeus. To me this picture makes me think of Christ for he died for our sins and Atlas is holding us up on his shoulders for some thing he did but Christ Died for us for what we have done it is similar really.

There are many different stories that tells about Atlas but this one is most accurate from what I can find it comes from the first stories that told of Atlas and how he became the bearer of the heavens and earth.

Atlas was son of the first generations of the Ancient Greek Gods which were the Titans.

Atlas is one of the most well known Titans for many reasons. One is the war that lasted for tens years when he got most of the Titans and many of the gods and goddess to rebel against Zeus. All of the Titans were punished in some fashionable manner that Zeus

some of the items found on the site of Zeus birth place

some of the items found on the site of Zeus birth place that looks like a coin and petrified lightning

It appears in Crete Greece that archaeologists may have found the real place of which the Greek Myths speaks of where The Great Greek God Zeus himself was raised. In the myths it tell us that Zeus was raised in Mount Lykaion in Crete to keep Cronos away from him. He was hidden there until he became a man and took over Mount Olympus with his brothers and sister(s)
As of digs more then two years ago has showed that there was an altar with ceremonial goods there that was given to Zeus as they worshiped him. These items date back as far as the legend started of Zeus. They are said to be over 3400 years old which makes these items the oldest known items that was used to worship Zeus that any one knows of. This is also the first place where Zeus was first worshiped then from there it spread.

Zeus The Greek Supreme God

zeus setting on his thron

The Greek supreme god of all living and all creation came at a great price. Cronus and Rhea was his parents, Cronus was a titian and Rhea was considered as a Titan too due to her parents which were Gaia and Ouranos. She was known by most as The Mother Of The Gods. She was also Cronus sister as well as spouse. Due to that Cronus had over powered his own father and became king of the Gods he feared that his own children would do the same thing to him as well as that Gaia and Ouranos had told him that his children would rise up against him and take the throne for themselves. So as Rhea had his children he would swallow them. They would not die but just be trapped within his body they would grow inside of him just as they would have in the world. He done this every time just as soon as the children were born. Rhea soon grew tiered of this and …

the twelve titans

The Twelve Titans

The myths of Ancient Greece chronicle a very interesting tale of human existence, filled with iconic gods and goddesses that controlled the destiny of mortals. These deities were said to come from forces of nature that were referred to as Titans in Hesiod’s epic Theogony.  They were said to be the first twelve children of Uranus (Father Sky) and Gaea (Mother Earth). The Titans were elemental rather than human, however their story is filled with more passion, greed, heroism, and violence than a modern day drama

In Greek mythology

The stages of mortal existence are separated into ages.

The first of these was the Golden Age when the Titans ruled, and it represented a time when peace and harmony reigned. The tranquility was not all that it appeared though, and it came at a rather horrific price. Uranus was displeased with the younger children that Gaea gave birth to after the first twelve, considering the many arms of the Hecatonchires and the one-eyed Cyclopes to be hideous.  He imprisoned them in Gaea’s

Do you wonder some times why we suffer so badly and why there is so much heart ache, blood shed, greed, death, old age and the list goes on and on.

Could there be some type of truth, that is in the legend of Pandora herself and the box or urn that was given to her. The name Pandora means “the one who bares all”. Pithos pandora's box

Today opening Pandora’s box means to create or unleash evil that can not be undone. The Pandora’s box was really a large Urn or jar (pithos) meaning all gifted.

In the Ancient Greek Mythology the First woman to ever walk on Earth was named Pandora and was used as a secret weapon against mankind.

Pegasus The Flying Horse And Bellerophon

Posted by Roses on January 6, 2010

pegasusPegasus has always fascinated me. Pegasus is seen in lots of art work and used in many poems. He is one of the most famous myths in Greek Mythology. Read the history of Pegasus and enjoy it as much I have enjoyed writing this piece.

Pegasus is from Greek Mythology and belonged to Bellerophon. This beautiful wing horse was born from the blood that was spilled from the Queen of the Gorgons Medusa. She and Poseidon the God of all waters mated and she was already pregnant by him when Perseus cut here head clean off her shoulders.

Pegasus also had a brother that sprung from the blood of Medusa. He was called Chrysaor and was described as a winged Boar. Both creatures were born fully grown from the blood of Medusa.KHRYSAOR

Bellerophon tamed this beast by using the magic bridle that was given to him by Athena.

Bellerophon was a Korinthian Hero. Bellerophon rode Pegasus into battle against the Khimaira which was a fire breather. This was a creature that had the head and …

God Zeus

God Zeus

Greek Mythology  has always been one of my biggest interests. When I was little I could not get enough of this kind of thing.

Now as most people  know the Olympians are made of 12 Gods who after the Titans ruled. All of these Gods were related in some way or another.

But has anyone ever noticed that the Greek Mythology  is a lot like the bible and has so many of the same things that happened  in the bible. Lets take a look at Zeus in this read.

First off any one who has the name today Jesus they pronounce it as Zeus.   Strange don’t you think?
Zeus was the main and almighty over all just like our God.
Now Zeus was the great God over the Skys and the ruler of all of the other Olympian Gods.

Cronus was the father of  Zeus but Zeus over threw his father with help from his brothers Poseidon and Hades.
He is the supreme ruler of all of the sky and the rain God. …
